MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP) _ Bicyclists are taking part in events globally to remember riders killed in traffic accidents.
In Murfreesboro, Middle Tennessee State University students organized a Ride of Silence event Wednesday to honor Timothy Martin, who was struck and killed in February as he walked his bike across a street near the campus.
Organizer Josh Stone told WMOT-FM that the ride will begin at 7 p.m. at the campus sports club complex and go for nearly 8 miles. All bike riders are welcome.
This is the tenth year for the rides, which began in Dallas in 2003.
Information is online at the Murfreesboro Bicycle Club website, mborobike.com.
Tennessee accident statistics show eight bicycle riders died in traffic in 2012 and five died the year before.
Martin's death is the only bike fatality recorded this year.
