TSU announces inaugural events for new president

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) _ Glenda Baskin Glover, who was named president of Tennessee State University in January, will officially take the oath of office next month at the historically black institution.

Glover said at a news conference Tuesday that the inaugural theme will be ``New Century, New Direction for Excellence.'' TSU was founded in 1912 in Nashville and has about 9,000 undergraduate and graduate students.

Activities begin Oct. 23 with a student-led procession at the president's home followed by a student luncheon. On Oct. 24, activities include the premiere of the movie ``From the Rough,'' based on the career of former TSU coach Catana Starks, first woman to coach a college men's golf team.

Glover's inauguration Oct. 25 begins with an investiture ceremony in the morning and concludes with an inaugural gala at Gaylord Opryland Resort.
