United Way holds fundraiser for book program

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) _ United Way of Nashville is holding a fundraiser this Friday for the Imagination Library program.

Created by country singer Dolly Parton in 1996, the program provides a new, age-appropriate hardcover book every month to children from birth to age 5 at no cost to the family and regardless of income.

Erica Mitchell is senior director of community impact at United Way. She says studies show having books in the home increases educational attainment of children.

The fundraiser starts at 7 p.m. and will be held at the Loveless Barn on 8400 Highway 100 in Nashville.

Tickets are $75 per person or $150 per couple.
