NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) _ A survivor of the Virginia Tech massacre is speaking out in support of mandatory background checks for all gun sales.
Colin Goddard spoke in Nashville on Tuesday about surviving being shot four times in a morning French class while ten other people around him were killed.
Goddard said he was shocked to later learn that background checks are not universal. Private sales do not require them, and some people cheat the system by conducting multiple sales this way.
About 150 people came out for the event, which was a fundraiser for Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America.
Goddard said he hopes his story makes the issue of gun violence real for people who think it could never happen to them.
